Welcome Back to InThe Rough...

This is my third post for this blog and I hope the old saying holds true......................you know......"the third time's the charm"

Speaking of charm every time I hear that word I think of Lucky Charms which automatically takes me to St. Patrick's Day. Funny how my mind works...... Let me explain.

I am a father of three kids, an 11-year old and two nine-year olds. I do the majority of grocery shopping in my house and get my kids ready for school in the morning (Ladies, I told you there is more to me than meets the eye). By the way someone told me the other day I had a face for radio and a voice for television. Is that a compliment?

Back to the Lucky Charms. Lucky Charms is my kid's favorite cereal. The Lucky Charms' leprechaun always makes me think of St. Patrick's Day which makes me think of my wife, who is Irish, who I met in an Irish bar in the summer of 1991 or 1992 (those days and nights were a little fuzzy back then). I realize none of this directly relates to St. Patrick's Day or golf, but hopefully it offers some insight into my fragile psyche.

By the way Padraig Harrington is one of my favorite international golfers. I told you the story would all come together.

The PGA TOUR.........

We are all excited in Myrtle Beach about the emergence of first-year TOUR player Dustin Johnson. Dustin was a three-time All-America at Coastal Carolina University here in Myrtle Beach and was the only 2008 college graduate to make it through "Q" school this year. Dustin has already had three top-12 finishes this year, has banked more than $400,000 dollars and is 4-for-4 in cuts made. Dustin hits bombs and makes tons of birdies. Look for great things in his future.

Dustin actually was at True Blue this June playing in the Carolinas Match Play event, where he finished second. Of course I'm so clueless I was the only one on my staff who didn't actually meet him. However, all accounts from the staff say he was very friendly and polite and I heard the term "hot" mentioned by some of the female staff members. As I recall, it was warm in June this year.......oh the other kind of hot.......good for him.

From the Fashion File:

Short pant season is coming:

Men, longer is always better. Women shorter is sometimes better.(Natalie Gulbis-Yes) (Nancy Lopez-No) When in doubt don't wear it out. Always a good policy for any clothing choice.

Tip of the day:

Please! Please! Please!

Amateurs, will you take one more club....

You cannot base your club selection on the one time six years ago that you hit your 8-iron 150 yards. I'm sure it was downwind with a flyer lie to a firm green and the yardage plate was 20 years old and hadn't been lasered or marked with GPS yet. This is, by the far, the number one mistake that almost every amateur I play with makes on nearly every approach to the green. If you do not know how far you hit the ball with each club, spend a day at the range and figure it out. Take 10 balls and hit to a target. Throw out the long and short balls and walk off the yardage with the remaining balls that are flag high to the target. If you don't have any balls around the target immediately book a lesson with your local PGA professional....Play smarter not harder......

How to walk and talk like a player

The range is for working on your game, if you want to chit-chat, join the bridge club. By the way, chatty Cathy/Charles no one wants unsolicited advice, that's why solicitation is banned from most places..think about it.

Phrase & Definition:

NC Hammer = No card (couldn't post score)

Playing it down = Golf (winter rules and rolling it over don't count)

Thanks for your time, I feel better already.

The golf course is in great shape so call us or book your spring tee-times today. Email us anytime with thoughts about golf, family, Myrtle Beach, this blog or anything else you would like to talk about.
