During this time of year it is important to give thanks........
I know what you are thinking......Thanksgiving in early October? This guy has completely lost it!
Not so fast, my friends. Now more than ever, I should be giving thanks to those around me who give me meaning and purpose to my existence.
In these hard economic times when all of us are "suffering," we need perspective and contemplation.
Afterall, I am fortunate to work in an industry that revolves around play.
I am fortunate enought to work for a general manager and ownership group that pays me enough to put a nice roof over my family's head and two cars in the driveway.
This ownership group also encourages me to explore new horizons in the golf industry whether its writing this blog or co-hosting a golf talk radio show.
I have the option of deciding when I want to play golf, not if I can play golf.
I live in a wonderful community with close access to the ocean, schools, golf courses and work, all within a two-minute drive.
I have a wonderful wife and three children. My wife understands every one of my quirks and has learned to ignore most of them. My children are active, healthy kids who happen to be outstanding students and have a love of all sports.
What more could a guy ask for?
Do I complain about the cost of gas, the drop in the stock market, delaying a vactation or upgrade for the house? Yes.
Should I? No, but I don't begrudge my friends and colleagues who talk about the current state of affairs, because I do it as well.
But when you consider the way some of our fellow human beings forge an existence in poverty and despair.........
It puts things in perspective if only (unfortunately) for a moment.
Back to Golf!
