Caledonia Honored by Golfweek
Monday, April 6, 2009Pawleys Island, S.C. - Caledonia Golf & Fish Club was named one of the Best Modern Courses by Golfweek Magazine in its annual America’s Best Courses rankings, published in the March 14th issue. Caledonia, a Mike Strantz design, is ranked No. 98 and was the only Grand Strand area layout named to the list.
Named to Golfweek’s inaugural list of ‘Best Modern Courses’ in 1997, Caledonia has been ranked each year and is the only Myrtle Beach area course to be recognized among the top 100 each year.
Golfweek defines a modern course as being built after 1960, and rates courses based on criteria that includes the ease and intimacy of routing, integrity of design, quality of feature shaping, natural setting and overall land planning among other categories.
“We work hard year after year to provide the best in quality and service to our customers,” said Todd Welden, Caledonia’s director of golf. “This recognition is not just a reflection of our commitment to excellence, but a statement of our willingness to create the best experience for our golfers.”

About Caledonia Golf and Fish Club
Caledonia Golf and Fish Club has been named one of the ‘Top 100 You Can Play’ by Golf Magazine, ‘Top 25 Courses in South Carolina’ and ‘America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses’ by Golf Digest, ‘Best Modern Courses’ by Golfweek, South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel’s list of ‘50 Best Courses’ and ‘Top 100 Best Courses for Women’ by Golf for Women. The course is built upon the site of a historic 18th century rice plantation in Pawleys Island, S.C. The 6,526-yard, par-70 course has been described as having 18 signature holes, with holes routed around majestic oaks and meandering streams. The picturesque 18th hole borders the Plantation’s old rice field, and requires a precise tee shot that sets up a difficult second shot: a forced carry onto a green that is watched closely by the beautiful antebellum style clubhouse.
