Monday, June 16, 2008Highly-Acclaimed Grand Strand Area Courses Earn Recognition From Prestigious Ranking
Pawleys Island, S.C. “Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Plantation were recently named to GolfLink.com’s 2008 “Top 100 Courses” ranking, with Caledonia rated at #15 and True Blue at #38. The two Mike Strantz-designed courses were two of only four South Carolina golf courses named to the prestigious list and the only Myrtle Beach area courses honored.
A leading online golf resource, GolfLink.com annually selects the “Top 100 United States Golf Courses” from more than 20,000 public and private golf courses across the country and bases the rankings on the preferences of the one million or more golfers who regularly visit the Web site.
“We work hard year after year to provide the best in quality and service to our customers,” said John Springs, general manager of Caledonia and True Blue. “This recognition is not just a reflection of our commitment to excellence, but a statement of our willingness to create the best experience for our golfers.”
“It was important for us to rank courses not on reputation, but on actual feedback from our members,” said Doug Colbeck, general manager, GolfLink.com. “GolfLink community members and site users represent a perfect cross-section of players who not only love golf, but love to spread the word about experiences they’ve had on the links - both good and bad. When they talk, we listen, and their input is reflected in this year’s list.”
Caledonia and True Blue were joined on the list by other nationally-renowned golf courses such as Bethpage State Park (#1), Augusta National Golf Club (#2), Pinehurst No. 2 Golf Course (#14), Bandon Dunes Golf Resort (#17), Cypress Point Club (#20), Spyglass Hill Golf Course (#30), Kapalua Golf Club (#34) and TPC at Sawgrass (#42). Other Palmetto State courses honored included The Legends at Parris Island (#66) and Kiawah Island Resort (#85).

About Caledonia Golf and Fish Club
Caledonia Golf and Fish Club has been named one of the “Top 100 You Can Play” by Golf Magazine, “Top 25 Courses in South Carolina” and “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” by Golf Digest, “Top 100 Modern Courses” by Golfweek, South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel’s list of “50 Best Courses” and “Top 100 Best Courses for Women” by Golf for Women. The course is built upon the site of a historic 18th century rice plantation in Pawleys Island, S.C. The 6,526-yard, par-70 course has been described as having “18 signature holes,” with holes routed around majestic oaks and meandering streams. The picturesque 18th hole borders the Plantation’s old rice field, and requires a precise tee shot that sets up a difficult second shot: a forced carry onto a green that is watched closely by the beautiful antebellum style clubhouse.
