Caledonia Honored by Golf World
Wednesday, October 29, 2008Pawleys Island, S.C. - Golf World unveiled the publication’s first “Readers’ Choice Awards” in the current October 17th issue and recognized the best golf facilities in the country in three categories: public golf, private golf and resort golf courses. Golf World invited its readers to evaluate courses using criteria established by editors and more than 21,000 reviews were received.
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and True Blue Plantation were honored in the top 20 of the public course category and led all Myrtle Beach area courses. Out of a possible 100 points, Caledonia was ranked at No. 10 with a score of 85.62 while True Blue came in at No. 16 with a score of 83.14. Caledonia was also selected to the Best of the Best public course category with top 10 finishes in quality of course; course conditions and reputation and prestige. A total of 22 South Carolina courses were honored in the rankings with 15 hailing from the Grand Strand area.
“Caledonia and True Blue have always been known for great golf and conditions,” said John Springs, general manager of Caledonia and True Blue. “This newest ranking comes straight from the golfers who play our course every day and we value their opinions that our two courses are among the best public golf courses in the country.
The Readers’ Choice Awards are based solely on reader input gathered by Golf Digest Publications’ Research Resource Center via an online poll. Using a 10-point scale, readers graded facilities based on the 12 criteria which included quality of course; condition of course; reputation and prestige; golf practice facilities; speed of play; clubhouse/locker rooms; hotel accommodations; caddie program; golf pro shop; food/dining; off-course activities/amenities; service and overall value.
To arrive at an overall aggregate score for each facility, Golf World calculated the average ratings received in all applicable criteria. The raw scores were weighted to reflect different levels of significance for each of the criteria, with the formula varying based on the category. The overall total then was recalculated to a 100-point scale so a perfect score on every ballot yielded an aggregate of 100.
